Am 11. Mai 1931 musste die Direktion der Österreichischen Credit-Anstalt für Handel und Gewerbe – einer »systemrelevanten« Bank – einen Verlust von 140 Millionen Schilling einbekennen. Der wahre Fehlbetrag machte über eine Milliarde Schilling aus, für den fast zur Gänze die öffentliche Hand aufzukommen hatte. Dies entsprach rund zehn Prozent des Volkseinkommens von 1930. Es ist klar, dass ein so hoher Verlust nicht in einem Jahr entstanden sein konnte. In dem Buch »Vor dem großen Krach« untersucht Fritz Weber die »objektiven« Ursachen und die schweren bankpolitischen Fehler, die zum Zusammenbruch der Bank führten. |
