Der Band versammelt Beiträge, die bisher weitgehend unbekannte frühneuzeitliche Literatur über Tabak, Bier, Wein und Kaffee kritisch edieren, kommentieren und interpretieren. Darunter sind neulateinische Texte, etwa Lobdichtungen auf den Tokajerwein oder das Nordhäuser Bier, aber auch gegen den Genuss von Tabak oder Alkohol gerichtete Texte, und deutschsprachige wie Johann Christian Günthers „Lob des Knaster-Tobacks" und eine Hirtendichtung Barthold Heinrich Brockes’. Die Sammlung eröffnet somit auch einen kulturhistorischen Blickwinkel auf aktuelle Debatten zur Rauschmittellegalisierung. |
This volume brings together annotated editions and interpretations of Early Modern literature about tobacco, beer, wine, and coffee. It includes New Latin and German panegyric poems praising Tokaji wine or beer from Nordhausen, for instance, but also texts opposing the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. The collection thus offers a cultural-historical perspective on current debates surrounding the legalization of intoxicants. |
