Schwindende Dialogfähigkeit prägt das politische Klima unserer Gegenwart in einem Maß, dass demokratische Praktiken zunehmend unter Druck geraten. Um dem Trend zum Ruckzug ins Selbstbestätigungsmilieu entgegenzuwirken, bedarf es neuer Räume, deren Atmosphären Debatten nicht nur dulden, sondern stimulieren und kultivieren. Studierende der Hochschule RheinMain haben deshalb Salons fur zentrale Orte in Berlin und Frankfurt/Main entworfen, die Lust auf Demokratie machen. The political climate of our time is being shaped by a dwindling ability to engage in public dialogue, putting democratic practices under increasing pressure. In order to counter the trend towards retreating into the realm of self-affirmation, we need new spaces in which public debate is not only tolerated but stimulated. With this in mind, students at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences designed centrally located salons in Berlin and Frankfurt/Main that could inspire interest in democratic engagement. In summer 2021, the German Architecture Museum will exhibit these designs. This book complements the exhibit with five essays by well-known authors, as well as a comic strip depicting a day in the life of the Salons of the Republic. |

Focuses for the first time on materials development and applications of current research and theory for the main areas of applied linguistics (e.g. second language acquisition, pragmatics, vocabulary studies). There are many books on applied linguistic theory and research and there are now a number of books on the principled development of materials for language learning, but this book takes a new approach by connecting the two concerns. Each of its chapters first of all presents relevant theories and research conclusions for its area and then considers practical applications for materials development. The chapters achieve these applications by reporting and commenting on current theory and research, by analysing the match between current published materials and current theory and by suggesting and exemplifying applications of current theory to materials development. This will be an essential resource both for those studying or teaching materials development and for those studying or teaching applied linguistics. |
