Auslandsaufenthalte im Lebenslauf von Studienabsolventen stellen mittlerweile fast schon eine Selbstverständlichkeit dar: Viele Studenten verbringen während ihres Studiums ein oder mehrere Semester im Ausland. Welche Vorteile, welche Probleme bringt dieser Umstand mit sich?Zwar liegen bereits einige Studien vor, die sich mit den positiven Auswirkungen solcher Aufenthalte auf die Persönlichkeit der Studierenden befassen. Doch kaum eine davon gibt auch nur entfernt Aufschluss darüber, welche Hürden zu bewältigen sind. Läuft wirklich immer alles problemlos während eines Auslandsaufenthalts und danach, oder gibt es auch schwierige Phasen? In welcher Form und wann tritt der so oft beschriebene Kulturschock ein? Ist dies zwangsläufig? Und was versteht man unter dem Rückkehrschock? Die vorliegende Studie erforscht mit Hilfe von Leitfaden-geführten Interviews die Stationen und Bewältigungsstrategien von Studenten, die |

längere Zeit im Ausland waren. Dabei zeigte sich, dass die Situation der Rückkehr und der Umgang mit dieser für die Betroffenen oft wesentlich schwieriger ist als der vermeintlich so heftige Kulturschock zu Beginn eines Auslandsaufenthaltes. Andrea Richter zeigt die verschiedenen Stationen längerer Auslandsaufenhalte und ihre typischen Problemsituationen auf sowie die Bewältigungsstrategien der Betroffenen. Sie gibt damit einen praxisnahen Einblick in die Art und Weise, wie sich die befragten Studenten im Ausland bewegten und was sie bei ihrer Heimkehr erlebten und fühlten. Das Buch richtet sich sowohl an diejenigen, die sich in Vorbereitung eines solchen Aufenthaltes befinden, als auch an jene, die sich auf Grundlage praxisnaher Falluntersuchungen eingehender mit dem Thema auseinandersetzen wollen. |
