Sommario/riassunto

Stritikus (education, U. of Washington) presents the case of one California school district's experience with the changes in bilingual education policy brought about by Proposition 227. His ethnographic study focuses on four teachers in two schools in a rural district, and seeks to understand the nature of teachers' work in an out of classroom literacy contexts in the new policy environment created by Proposition 227. The author examines how teachers' work influences the nature of Proposition 227 as a reform strategy, and several factors that contribute to the connection between policy and practice. He concludes with possible implications of the findings for the understanding of language policy and the education of culturally and

linguistically diverse students. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
