Autant la haine comme support de la violence sociale s’impose-t-elle comme une évidence dans l’espace de la réflexion sur les sociétés, autant son approche historique souffre-t-elle de cette évidence même tant il est aujourd’hui difficile d’aborder ce sujet hors de l’obligation morale de la condamnation des auteurs ou de la compassion pour les victimes. C’est pourtant dans cette voie, celle d’une réflexion historique sur la haine, c’est-à-dire celle de la prise en compte de la complexité des phénomènes de haine, haines dites ou manifestées dans l’intérieur de la Cité, dans des contextes institutionnels et socioculturels précisément situés et décrits, et en investiguant les différentes formes de discours qui l’expriment, que s’engage le présent ouvrage. Il invite donc, au-delà de la certitude première que la haine est destructrice du lien social, à s’interroger certes sur les conditions de surgissement de la haine, et celles de son contrôle, mais également sur la possibilité de comprendre l’expression positive de la haine. « Positive », on s’en doute, dans tous les cas, pour ceux qui fondent leur raison politique sur la haine et le rejet de l’Autre, mais positive encore lorsqu’elle est invoquée dans un tout autre esprit, « haine des méchants » ou « haine de la tyrannie », à l’appui cette fois d’un ordre social considéré comme juste. Le croisement du regard de l’historien, étendu de manière inhabituelle de l’Antiquité au xxie siècle, avec ceux du musicologue ou du linguiste, dans une démarche pluridisciplinaire inaccoutumée, contribue ainsi à dégager les premiers éléments d’une réflexion historique sur la haine comme passion sociale. |
