Excerpt: ... that is to be understood by the phrase, "justified in the Spirit;" that the manifested Son of God was an object of admiration and devout contemplation to angels--these are all facts. As such, two things may be remarked concerning them. First, they are facts in the personal life of the Lord Jesus Christ; and, secondly, they are facts connecting that life with one particular country, and that a country of very limited extent. It was in Palestine that the birth of the incarnate Deity occurrred; there His life was wholly spent; there He died His sacrificial death. This was in fulfilment of the Divine purpose that to the Jew first the blessings of the New Covenant should be offered. It |

was to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel" only that "the Good Shepherd " in His own ministry came. It was the Jew only who had the privilege of seeing and knowing Christ in the flesh. It was among the Jewish people that He was "justified in the Spirit," justified and proved what He claimed to be, the Messiah of God. It was among the people in whose synagogues Moses and the prophets were constantly read, that the claim of Jesus to be the Saviour whom prophecy foreannounced was made; and among them, and not in any strange land, that that human life was spent which challenged inquiry and investigation as being the fulfilment of the varied testimony of their own prophets. There, where in every synagogue the ancient scriptures were read, and where they were well known to all the people, the appeal was made from that life to those scriptures themselves in justification of the claim of Jesus to be the true Messiah, the very Son of the living God.
