Theater sind Maschinen des Erscheinens. Und Theatermaschinen, die erscheinen lassen, verbergen sich selbst und bezeugen sich in ihren Effekten. Das teilen sie mit den Machinationen, wie Intrigen bis ins 19. Jahrhundert hießen. Sie widerstreiten dem Primat der dramatischen Handlung und ermöglichen in Verbindung mit Musik und anderen Illuminationen Theater als Spektakel.
