Sommario/riassunto

The book focuses on various aspects and properties of innate immunity, whose deep understanding is integral for safeguarding the human race from further loss of resources and economies due to innate immune response-mediated diseases. Throughout this book, we examine the individual mechanisms by which the innate immune response acts to protect the host from pathogenic infectious agents and other non-communicable diseases. Written by experts in the field, the volume discusses the significance of macrophages in infectious disease, tumor metabolism, and muscular disorders. Chapters cover such topics as the fate of differentiated macrophages and the molecular pathways that are important for the pathologic role of macrophages.

Sommario/riassunto

Aber was bedeutete dies konkret? Welches Konzept stand hinter Arafats doppelter Deutschlandpolitik? Diesen Fragen geht Lutz Maeke in seiner quellengesättigten Studie nach.

Were Erich Honecker and Yasser Arafat a real-life example of male friendship? Or was the reality quite different? Almost 30 years after the demise of the GDR, this study is the first comprehensive national and international academic examination of East German–Palestinian relations. Its findings cast doubt on virtually all previously accepted truisms about the GDR’s PLO and Palestine policies.

Sommario/riassunto

Biohydrogen is the cleanest biofuel. It has the highest energy content by weight and burns cleanly – generating just water. It is the best choice for fuel cells, where it generates electricity directly, in its reaction with oxygen. Biohydrogen appears naturally as part of gases from mammal digestive systems, and it can be produced in specially designed anaerobic biodigesters, or through photocatalysis with microalgae. The gas is also easy to purify and use. As a green hydrogen obtained through bioprocesses, economical biohydrogen production is full of challenges and opportunities: from efficient and fast substrate conversion to storage, transportation, and safe use, there are several aspects that must be developed. Research in this field attacks the challenge of large-scale, efficient production from several directions: substrate pretreatment to enhance digestibility, metabolic networks analysis, and microbial diversity and succession to highlight constraints in production, bioreactor, and downstream design to improve throughput and reduce costs, to cite a few. This volume presents a brief introduction to biohydrogen production, and then explores the recent advances and developments in the area, in twenty four chapters written by specialists on the matter.
