Sommario/riassunto

William Morris expresses the importance and symbolism behind the dress of the clergy and religious clothing in general. More was taken to account than covering up the skin. The book explains the church's values in union with the patterns and colors as well as white embroidery and silk work. Material of the clothing equated one's status. And because one's status was embodied with "church and state" as one, church clergy and other church positions and affiliates were of top status and therefore wore rich clothing and material. Not to strut wealth but to raise awareness and honor of their religious faith.
