Sommario/riassunto

The Hunting Hill Quarry is located about 17 miles (27 km) northwest of the Washington, D.C. Convention Center. This quarry was opened in 1955 by Rockville Crushed Stone, Inc. and now serves as a major source of crushed stone for Montgomery County and the Washington D.C. area (Fig. 1). Since its inception the quarry has produced approximately 100,000,000 tons (907,200,000 mt) of stone, most of which has been used as an aggregate for asphalt and as a sub-base for roads. Fines, because of the fibrous nature of the mineral constituents, are in demand as a filler in asphalt.
