"The term Metaverse refers to next-generation Internet applications that aim to create virtual 3D environments where humans can interact with each other as well as the applications' functionalities via digital avatars. To realize the potential of such massive virtual environments, Metaverse applications have to overcome various challenges. First, we currently lack a unified view of Metaverse's definition, architecture, and components. Therefore, we need to identify and define the fundamental aspects of the Metaverse. Second, Metaverse applications are expected to have strict requirements regarding resources, latency, interoperability, security, and privacy. To address these concerns, diverse technologies ranging from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision to blockchain need to be utilized and incorporated."-- |
