À la lumière des études menées dans huit pays distincts, les auteurs de cet ouvrage observent que ce qui est qualifié de « savoirs locaux » sur les ressources et les environnements naturels est indissociable des contextes, des pratiques ou plus généralement des réseaux où ils se déploient. Ils sont difficilement décryptables en dehors des interventions des diverses catégories d’acteurs qui s’en emparent. Différentes interrogations sont ainsi soulevées : de quels types de savoirs est-il question ? Quand la notion « savoirs locaux » est-elle utilisée et par qui ? Jusqu’à quel point ces savoirs sont-ils redéfinis, reformulés voire inventés ? Les auteurs présentent une analyse critique |

précise et détaillée sur la notion de savoir local et sur ses divers contenus. Ils montrent que, au-delà des hésitations sémantiques pour la désigner, la notion de « savoir local » est plurivoque et s’avère de nature au moins aussi politique que cognitive. Cet ouvrage est issu des échanges intervenus lors d’un séminaire intitulé Savoirs traditionnels, l’innovation permanente organisé par l’UMR Gred (Gouvernance, risque, environnement et développement. IRD, Université Paul Valéry Montpellier 3). Les études de cas qui y sont présentées concernent huit pays ou régions : l’Australie, la Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, le Mali, le Maroc, le Mexique, la Nouvelle-Calédonie et le Pérou. Les auteurs relèvent de quatre disciplines : l’économie, l’agronomie, la sociologie, l’anthropologie et son sous-ensemble, l’ethnoécologie. L’ouvrage s’adresse plus particulièrement aux communautés scientifiques de ces disciplines et à leurs étudiants. Le domaine abordé et les études de cas peuvent également interpeller des décideurs agissant sur les questions environnementales. |
