• Sommario/riassunto: Mit diesem Band wird die Abteilung III des Editionsprojektes Quellen zur Geschichte des Deutschen Bundes, die den Zeitraum von 1850 bis 1866 umfasst, abgeschlossen. Im Mittelpunkt steht zum einen der ; Frankfurter Fürstentag von 1863, auf dem ein letzter großer Versuch zu einer umfassenden Bundesreform unternommen wurde. Den zweiten Schwerpunkt bilden die bundespolitischen Auswirkungen des Schleswig-Holstein-Konflikts, der seit 1863 zum politischen Zerfall des Deutschen Bundes und schließlich zu seiner gewaltsamen Zerstörung im Krieg von 1866 führte. Neben den diplomatischen Verhandlungen werden die Debatten in der deutschen Öffentlichkeit durch zahlreiche Quellen dokumentiert. Des Weiteren erschließt der Band durch die Berücksichtigung von mittel- und kleinstaatlichen Stimmen die föderative Vielfalt in der praktischen Bundespolitik. Die Edition geht damit weit über das Bild hinaus, das die bisherigen Quellensammlungen aus einzelstaatlicher Perspektive ergeben.; The volume documents the final years of the German Confederation, covering 1863 to 1866. It focuses on the negotiations at the Frankfurt Conference (published in full for the first time) as well as the impact of the Schleswig-Holstein conflict, which led to the political collapse of the German Confederation and ultimately to its violent destruction in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866.
