Sommario/riassunto

"This book examines the role of temporary affirmative action measures in redressing structural inequalities suffered by designated groups. It presents a comparison of affirmative action measures and the actual experience in implementing them. The work addresses the theoretical framework informing the design of such measures and the international framework aimed at setting global standards and influencing the direction of national policies in this field. It then seeks to assess the progress of such legal and policy measures in Central and South America, China, India, South Africa and the United Kingdom. This collective research effort, based on a wider collaboration between researchers based in Latin America and Europe purports to provide a counter-narrative to the prevalent argument that human rights are failing because they are inadequate in countering inequality"--
