Eine Theorie des Designs muss, wenn sie nicht ideologisch daherkommen will, unabdingbar offen formuliert werden: widersprüchlich, provisorisch, provokativ, grenzenlos. Genau das gelingt diesem Buch, denn in durchaus wegweisender und exemplarischer Weise für einsichtiges Denken und Handeln unserer Zeit verweigert sich Design jeglicher Definition, Disziplinierung und Konformität, wehrt es sich gegen Eindeutigkeit und Zentralperspektive. Deshalb beschreibt Erlhoff unter sehr vielfältigen Aspekten die Komplexität von Design selber und dessen alltäglicher Durchdringung des Lebens.
