• Sommario/riassunto: Das Libretto ist die vielleicht letzte terra incognita der Literaturwissenschaft. Doch einmal vom Status einer randständigen Gattung entkleidet, offenbart es seine ästhetischen Qualitäten, intertextuellen Bezüge und weitreichende Bedeutung innerhalb der deutschen und europäischen Literatur und ihrer Debatten. Die ,Librettologie' präsentiert das Libretto als eigenständiges Kunstwerk und verdeutlicht zugleich seine Ausrichtung auf die transmediale Gattung Oper. Als Musik- und Lesetext schließt der ,Alceste'-Stoff mit sieben deutschen, französischen und italienischen Libretto-Bearbeitungen (u. a. von v. König, Quinault, Calzabigi/du Roullet) die großen Barockromane ,Aramena', ,Römische Octavia' und ,Asiatische Banise' mit der französischen ,Querelle' zusammen und leitet mit seinen Vertonungen (u. a. durch Schürmann, Lully, Gluck) hin auf eine ausführliche Analyse von C. M. Wieland und Anton Schweitzers ,Alceste', in der sich die Tendenzen des 17. und 18.
