En abordant le thème de la pêche à la ligne dans la littérature et le genre halieutique, qui contribue à enrichir les écrits sur la nature, Au fil de l’eau, au fil des textes remplit une case vide de la critique littéraire. Si la zoopoétique n’est jamais très loin, cet essai diversifie les méthodes d’approche, de la sociologie à la narratologie et à la psychanalyse, pour tenter de capturer ce genre fuyant et multiforme, rencontrant aux détours d’un méandre Hemingway et Genevoix, Maupassant, Zola ou Proust, et plongeant avec Bachelard et Freud « de l’autre côté du miroir », dans le monde des profondeurs.
