Since the 1990s, the numbers of Jewish communities in Bavaria have increased tenfold due to an influx of refugees. Many immigrants from the GUS states, however, brought physical and mental health problems with them and the mortality rate in these communities far exceeds their birth rate. The present study analyses this situation for the first time, focusing especially on how communities cope with these challenges. |
Wie kann eine kleine gesellschaftliche Gruppe mit einer übergroßen Anzahl schwerkranker und sterbender Mitglieder umgehen? Das ist die Herausforderung, vor der viele jüdische Gemeinden heute stehen. Seit den 90er Jahren haben sich durch die Kontingentflüchtlinge die Mitgliederzahlen jüdischer Gemeinden teilweise mehr als verzehnfacht. Viele Zuwanderer aus der GUS brachten gesundheitliche und psychische Vorbelastungen mit. Die Sterberate in den Gemeinden übertrifft die Geburtenrate um ein Vielfaches.
