Sommario/riassunto

"Which strategies do multilingual learners use when confronted with languages they don't yet know? Which factors are involved in activating prior linguistic knowledge in multilingual learning? This v. offers valuable insights into recent research in multilingualism, crosslinguistic influence and crosslinguistic interaction. Experts in the field examine the role of background languages in multilingual learning. All the chapters point to the heart of the question of what the 'multilingual mind' is. Does learning one language actually help you learn another, and if so, why? This volume looks at languages and scenarios beyond English as a second language - Italian, Gealic, Dutch and German, amongst others, are covered, as well as instances of third and additional language learning. Research into crosslinguistic influence and crosslinguistic interaction essentially contributes to our understanding of how language learning works when there are three or more languages in contact."--Bloomsbury Publishing.

Sommario/riassunto

This updated and expanded new edition explores how sport is manipulated for economic and political gain. Manipulation in sport takes many forms and carefully selected chapters detail the broad variety of ways this can take place. The different types of manipulation in sport are outlined, including doping, match-fixing, and breaking financial regulations, to provide a foundation to the topic. The role of legal interventions, in particular the Macolin Convention, as part of the fight -back against match-fixing is discussed, alongside chapters highlighting how poor governance can allow sport to be exploited by bad actors. New chapters looking at whistleblowing, sportwashing, and e-sports broaden the scope of the book and explore recent debates. This book aims to examine manipulation in sport through the lens of economics, bringing light to the various ways benefits can be gained from rule and regulation breaches. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in sports economics and sport governance. Markus Breuer is Professor at SRH University Heidelberg. David Forrest is Professor at the University of Liverpool.
