L’ouvrage Le Paysage normand dans la littérature et dans l’art contient les textes des communications qui ont été présentées sur ce thème au Colloque d’Evreux, en mars 1978. Une exposition organisée par Geneviève Viallefond se tenait en même temps au Musée d’Evreux. Ce recueil reflète les orientations suivantes : Demeures et sites inspirés, Le Pays des noms, Espace et lumière du paysage, A la recherche d’un mythe.  Le paysage normand n’a jamais cessé de solliciter artistes et écrivains, toujours attentifs à sa verdure, ses nuages, ses chaumières à colombage, ses cours de ferme et ses pommiers, la moiteur scintillante de ses bords de mer, ses ruines et ses monuments prestigieux. Ils ont aimé à s’attarder sur une nature familière, apaisante, proche de l’homme et à célébrer les travaux et les jours du Pays de Caux ou du Pays d’Ouche, associés à certains traits caractéristiques de la psychologie normande. Les études que nous publions donnent une idée de ces jeux de l’imaginaire et du réel, de ces rencontres inattendues, de ces réactions passionnées où l’écrivain se fait peintre, et le peintre va vers la littérature pour dire la beauté de la province normande.
