Thinking Barcelona studies the ideological work that redefined Barcelona during the 1980s and adapted the city to a new economy of tourism, culture, and services. It does so by examining political speeches and scripts of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games ceremonies, with special focus on Xavier Rubert de Ventós's screenplay for the reception of the flame in Empúries; the urban renewal of Barcelona directed by architect Oriol Bohigas; and fictional narratives by Quim Monzó, Francisco Casavella, Eduardo Mendoza, and Sergi Pàmies. |

"Choosing Well offers a compendium of case studies in bioethics, demonstrating real ethical dilemmas that can occur in Canadian health care settings. Instructors can draw upon the scenarios in this concise resource to encourage analysis, critique, discussion, and debate of hot-button ethical issues. The text presents a diverse selection of complex case studies in bioethics to stimulate in-depth analysis on topics ranging from distributive justice, research ethics, reproductive technologies, abortion, and death and dying, to the health care professional-patient relationship and ethics in the workplace. It also features case studies that move through time to reflect real-life decision making and cases that present multiple perspectives to illustrate the challenges that can arise from disputes in health care settings. The authors provide a framework for case study analysis--the DECIDED strategy--along with sample analyses of three full case studies using this approach. They also include a brief introduction to ethics, the role of case studies, and some of the most important bioethical principles, as well as a glossary of key terms. Choosing Well offers an accessible, practical, and interesting way to explore central issues in contemporary bioethics."-- |
