Der Ereck Hartmanns von Aue liegt bislang nur in Editionen vor, die vergeblich beanspruchen, mithilfe zahlreicher Konjekturen einen Autortext des 12. Jhs. zu rekonstruieren. Dabei ist der Roman abgesehen von vier Fragmenten nur in einer einzigen Handschrift vom Anfang des 16. Jhs., dem "Ambraser Heldenbuch", annähernd |

vollständig überliefert. Nur dieser von Hans Ried im Auftrag Kaiser Maximilians I. abgefasste Text kann die Grundlage einer verlässlichen Textausgabe darstellen: "Das dringendste Desiderat der philologischen 'Erec'-Forschung ist ein vorsichtig normalisierter und nur in den evidenten Fehlern korrigierter Abdruck des Ambraser 'Erec'" (Joachim Bumke). Diese Forschungslücke schließt die vorliegende Edition mit philologischem Kommentar und neuhochdeutscher Übersetzung, die erstmals nicht nur den Ambraser Text, sondern sämtliche Überlieferungszeugen des ersten deutschsprachigen Artusromans im Paralleldruck bietet und dabei auf Konjekturen weitestgehend verzichtet. Damit steht der Ereck-Philologie endlich eine handschriftennahe Textgrundlage zur Verfügung, die neue Zugänge zu diesem Kanontext des deutschen Mittelalters ermöglicht. |
