• Sommario/riassunto: Das vorliegende Arbeitsheft bietet dem Leser eingangs einen systematischen Überblick über das grammatische Teilsystem des accord du participe passé und dessen spezifische Problematik. Dabei wird u.a. auf die Komplexität und Arbitrarität des Regelwerks, auf die Frage der syntaktischen und semantischen Funktion des Angleichungsprinzips sowie auf die sozialpolitische Rolle des accord du participe passé eingegangen. Ziel dieser Ausführungen ist es, den 'Testfall' so aufzubereiten, daß er bei der anschließenden Analyse als Sonde der Grammatikographie dienen kann. Im Hauptteil vergleicht der Autor die Abhandlung des accord du participe passé in einer Auswahl französischer Grammatiken des 16. bis 20. Jahrhunderts (von Meigret, Arnauld/Lancelot, Condillac, Domergue, Damourette/Pichon, Grevisse, Weinrich). Dieser Vergleich soll zeigen, daß eine Interpretation und Systematisierung des accord du participe passé in Abhängigkeit vom zeitspezifischen kultur- und wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Hintergrund immer wieder neu vorgenommen werden kann, da Grammatikschreibung ein hermeneutischer Vorgang ist. Daher können ; Art und Gelingen der Interpretation der sprachlichen Strukturen bewertet werden: Das Schlagwort der 'Benutzerfreundlichkeit' ist aus der Diskussion um die neuen Medien bekannt; letztlich müssen sich jedoch auch Grammatiken an diesem Kriterium messen. Die verschiedenen Konzepte der untersuchten Grammatiken werden den hieraus resultierenden Anforderungen an Operationalität, Ökonomie etc. in höchst unterschiedlichem Maße gerecht. Abschließend versucht sich der Autor an einer neuartigen, formalisierten Darstellung des Regelwerks.; Every grammar of French is faced with the problem of how best to explain the correct usage of the grammatical part-system accord du participe passé in all its complexities and inconsistencies. The present volume pursues two objectives, the one being to give the reader a systematic overview of the rules involved and the specific problems they present, the other to essay a selective analysis of French grammar description from the Renaissance to the present, with reference to the handling of this particular accord phenomenon. It transpires that this instance of accord is a genuine test case, a concrete feature of grammatical analysis revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the various conceptions underlying the grammars in question.

• Sommario/riassunto: Even though important developments within 20th and 21st century philosophy have widened the scope of epistemology, this has not yet resulted in a systematic meta-epistemological debate about epistemology’s aims, methods, and criteria of success. Ideas such as the methodology of reflective equilibrium, the proposal to "naturalize" epistemology, constructivist impulses fuelling the "sociology of scientific knowledge", pragmatist calls for taking into account the practical point of epistemic evaluations, as well as feminist criticism of the abstract and individualist assumptions built into traditional epistemology are widely discussed, but they have not typically resulted in the call for, let alone the construction of, a suitable meta-epistemological framework.This book motivates and elaborates such a new meta-epistemology. It provides a pragmatist, social and functionalist account of epistemic states that offers the conceptual space for revised or even replaced epistemic concepts. This is what it means to "refurbish epistemology": The book assesses conceptual tools ; in relation to epistemology’s functionally defined conceptual space, responsive to both intra-epistemic considerations and political and moral values.
