Dass der Anteil älterer Menschen an der Gesamtbevölkerung wächst, kommt im öffentlichen Debatte immer häufiger zur Sprache. Auch in den Sozial- und Kulturwissenschaften steigt die Zahl der Publikationen zum Thema. Eine spezifisch gerontologische Kommunikationsforschung zeichnet sich hingegen erst allmählich im interdisziplinären und internationalen Feld der Aging Studies ab.Der vorliegende Band greift die kommuni­kationstheoretischen Überlegungen der Aging Studies auf, kontextualisiert sie neu und denkt sie weiter. Er versammelt aktuelle theoretische und empirische Arbeiten, die das Phänomen Alter(n) aus soziologischer, kommunikationswissenschaftlicher, linguistischer sowie gerontologischer Perspektive behandeln.
