L’Homme a longtemps cru que la Terre était infinie et ses ressources illimitées. Il découvre aujourd’hui qu’il vit dans un espace restreint et que la pénurie menace son existence. Il sait depuis longtemps que le climat peut perturber ses activités. Il apprend maintenant que ses activités peuvent provoquer un désastre climatique. Face à ces contraintes de plus en plus oppressantes, nous devons nous adapter à un monde qui change et trouver des pistes pour construire un avenir meilleur. Une de ces pistes consiste à abandonner définitivement l’usage des énergies fossiles responsables du réchauffement climatique et dont les réserves vont rapidement s’épuiser. Ainsi, il faut que les énergies de remplacement soient abondantes et facilement disponibles, qu’elles soient propres et viables techniquement et économiquement. L’objectif de cet ouvrage est de démontrer que, sous certaines réserves, l’hydrogène peut être l’une de ces énergies de remplacement. |

En particulier, l’hydrogène est amené à jouer, dans les prochaines décennies, un rôle majeur en tant qu’énergie de propulsion des véhicules terrestres et aériens, des fusées et des vaisseaux spatiaux. Le défi de demain sera alors de faire passer l’hydrogène du stade d’une matière première traditionnelle pour l’industrie chimique à celui d’un vecteur énergétique à la fois inépuisable et décarboné pour toutes les mobilités. |
