Gustav Klimt wurde 1862 in Österreich geboren und erhielt schon zu Beginn seiner Karriere den Auftrag, eine Reihe von Fresken zu zeichnen. Sein Name ist vor allem mit der Wiener Sezession verbunden, welche sich stark von der öffentlichen und akademischen Kunst distanziert.
