• Sommario/riassunto: Long description: Von 1931 bis 1937 hielt Joseph Roth sich mehrmals in den Niederlanden und Belgien auf. Auch wenn seine Erfahrungen stark von denjenigen weniger bekannter Migranten aus Deutschland und Österreich abwichen, so wurden sie doch nicht weniger mitgestaltet von den kulturellen Dynamiken, die sich in den beiden Nachbarländern entfalteten. Der vorliegende Sammelband spricht drei Fragenkomplexe an: Wie lässt sich Weltbürgertum mit Exil versöhnen? Welche Spuren von Präsenz und Vermittlung hat Roth selbst hinterlassen? Und wie nehmen Zeitzeugen wie der Essayist Geert Mak Roths Grenzgängertum auf? Vierzehn Beiträge schildern die Umstände, unter denen der Autor und seine Werke seitdem in den Niederlanden und Belgien lebten und noch leben. Hierbei stellt sich heraus, dass es unmöglich ist, von Grenzenlosigkeit zu träumen, ohne selbst immer wieder auf die Spannkraft von Grenzen zurückzugreifen: Unmöglich, Kosmopolit zu werden, ohne sich hin und wieder in den kleinen Räumen des Lokalen zu verirren.
