Les grammaires du français recèlent tant de renseignements que l'on pourrait être tenté de croire que tout a été dit aujourd'hui des complexités de la langue. Or, fait étonnant révélé par trente années d'études générativistes, certaines constructions restent encore presque entièrement ignorées, voire absentes des grammaires actuelles. Constructions méconnues du français rassemble, pour la première fois, des faits de langage que les recherches en linguistique moderne ont permis de caractériser, de décrire et de découvrir. L'ouvrage, divisé en dix chapitres, présente de façon singulière dix de ces constructions du français, parmi lesquelles la négation de phrase, l'inversion du sujet et la syntaxe de " en ". Pour chaque construction présentée, les auteurs font état de ses propriétés, de son fonctionnement, des restrictions auxquelles elle est soumise et, le cas échéant, des liens qu'elle entretient avec d'autres constructions en apparence non reliées.
