Sommario/riassunto

John Lachs (1934-) has been one of the most interesting American philosophers for nearly sixty years. His philosophical, educational, and public activity has been an attempt to show the relevance of philosophy to life. This is the first book dedicated to his thought. International scholars have proposed different themes in Lachs’ philosophy, so as to present its enormous potential. Lachs’ responses to his critics shows that dialogue with his critics is an inspirational activity for both sides. Lachs’ way of philosophizing can be seen as exemplary for those who want to unify and present a clear and understandable articulation of moral and philosophical messages to everyone.

Sommario/riassunto

This therapist guide describes a cognitive-behavioral family intervention for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in young children (ages 5-8). Both parents and children are taught ""tools"" to help them understand, manage and reduce OCD symptoms. Exposure with response prevention (E/RP) is the main component of treatment. In E/RP, the patient is exposed to the feared situation, and the usual response (i.e. the ritual or avoidance behavior) is prevented until anxiety descreases. The corresponding workbook for families reviews skills learned in therapy and includes forms and instructions for ho

Sommario/riassunto

"The aim of this textbook is to equip the reader with an in-depth knowledge of energy generation that transcends current conventional

methods of extracting from fossil fuels. Each chapter contains thorough analyses into alternative energy generation, focussing on the physical principles, commonalities and complementary features, in addition to basic thermodynamic considerations, of energy sources and techniques, including: - Nuclear Power - fission, fusion, plasma heating, magnetic confinement and radiation - Solar Power - fusion in stars, proton-proton cycle and blackbody radiation - Wind Power -- production and efficiency - Water Power -- wave motion - Hydroelectric/geothermal power The Physics of Energy Sources includes well-informed estimates of future global energy requirements and consumption, including efficiency levels of power production, energy transportation and storage relative to the function of time. Important environmental issues are tackled through discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The worked examples, sets of problems and worked solutions act as valuable references for both student and professional"--
