"The book contains 10 chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction. Chapter 2 deals with aspects relating to life cycles in the ocean; the demarcation of the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian and Southern Oceans made by FAO; and physical factors, chemical factors, biological factors of the ocean environment and climatic conditions over the oceans which affect fish and fisheries. Chapter 3 gives details of various commercially important marine fishes in the world's oceans. Chapter 4 contains information about the catches of major marine fish categories and their variations in all the 15 regions of the four major oceans. Aspects relating to climatic conditions, continental shelf, currents, upwelling, distribution of sea water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, silicate, phytoplankton, zooplankton and benthos and also maximum and minimum annual mean values of various oceanographic factors at different depths and yearly average catches of major fish categories are given in Chapter 5 for the Atlantic Ocean; in |
