Sommario/riassunto

The second edition of this course-tested book provides a detailed and in-depth discussion of the foundations of quantum theory as well as its applications to various systems. The exposition is self-contained; in the first part the reader finds the mathematical background in chapters about functional analysis, operators on Hilbert spaces and their spectral theory, as well as operator sets and algebras. This material is used in the second part to a systematic explanation of the foundations, in particular, states and observables, properties of canonical variables, time evolution, symmetries and various axiomatic approaches. In the

third part, specific physical systems and situations are discussed. Two chapters analyze Schrödinger operators and scattering, two others added in the second edition are devoted to new important topics, quantum waveguides and quantum graphs. Some praise for the previous edition: "I really enjoyed reading this work. It is very well written, by three real experts in the field. It stands quite alone...." John R. Taylor, Professor of Physics and Presidential Teaching Scholar, University of Colorado at Boulder.

Epidemiology and risk factors for upper urinary urothelial cancers -- Diagnosis and Evaluation of Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma (UTUC) -- Upper Urinary Tract Urothelial Carcinoma Pathology -- Prognostics factors, molecular markers and predictive tools in upper tract urothelial carcinoma -- Conservative management of low-risk UTUC -- Surgical Management of High-risk Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma -- The Role of Lymphadenectomy in the Management of Urothelial Carcinoma of the Upper Urinary Tract -- Chemotherapy.

Sommario/riassunto

Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma represents the first book of its kind to be dedicated solely to UTUC. Its aim is to improve understanding

and eventually care of a disease that is greatly understudied and underappreciated, yet commonly dealt with by many medical and urologic oncologists. The volume features new data regarding genetic susceptibility, gene expression studies and causative factors; contemporary concepts and controversies regarding diagnosis and staging of UTUC; prediction tools and their value in treatment decisions within each disease stage andpatient selection and treatment options such as endoscopic management, distal ureterectomy, radical nephroureterectomy and chemotherapy. Up-to-date information regarding boundaries of surgical resection, indication and extent of lymphadenectomy are covered as well as the role of perioperative/neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with high-risk UTUC.   Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma will be of great value to all Urologists, Medical Oncologists, and fellows in Urologic Oncology as well as upper level residents in training in Urology and Medical Oncology.
