Rickels's ""unmourning"" trilogy, followed by ""The Case of California"" and ""Nazi Psychoanalysis."". Rickels studies mourning and melancholia within and around psychoanalysis, analyzing the writings of such thinkers as Freud, Nietzsche, Lessing, Heinse, Artaud, Keller, Stifter, Kafka, and Kraus.
