Im Fokus steht dabei eine Person: Michael Pfurtscheller. Am Gerüst seiner Biografie wird – auf einer Fülle von Quellen basierend – die Geschichte einer ländlichen Gesellschaft an der Schwelle zur Moderne montiert.
