• Sommario/riassunto: Der einsame Weg erscheint als 15. Band der von Konstanze Fliedl herausgegebenen historisch-kritischen Ausgabe von Arthur Schnitzlers Frühwerk. Die Edition zeichnet die komplexe, von Neuansätzen und Variationen geprägte Entstehung des 1904 uraufgeführten Stückes nach: Aus Angst vor selbstverschuldeter Einsamkeit will ein alternder Maler seinen illegitimen, einem ahnungslosen Freund untergeschobenen und inzwischen erwachsenen Sohn zurückgewinnen. In diesem "Schauspiel in 5 Akten" seziert Schnitzler die Schattenseiten vermeintlich freier Künstlerexistenzen ebenso wie jene des bürgerlichen Lebens, das nur zum Preis von Betrug und Selbstbetrug zu haben ist. Die Ausgabe präsentiert die Faksimiles der überlieferten ; Handschriften mit diplomatischer Umschrift und gibt die erhaltenen Typoskripte wieder; ein Lesetext samt Variantenapparat wurde nach der Erstausgabe erstellt. Der Band enthält eine Einführung zur Entstehungs- und Druckgeschichte sowie einen Kommentar zu linguistischen Besonderheiten und kulturgeschichtlichen Kontexten. Die historisch-kritische Ausgabe bietet eine wissenschaftlich fundierte Grundlage für eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk Arthur Schnitzlers.
