|
In der Gruppe der Hamburger Mäzene, die 1907 mit ihren Spenden die Hamburgische Wissenschaftliche Stiftung ins Leben riefen und damit zwölf Jahre später die Gründung der Hamburger Universität ermöglichten, ist der Kaufmann Georg Hermann Stoltz (1845-1939) mit seiner Biografie in vieler Hinsicht ein typischer Vertreter. Wie manche andere der Gruppe baute er einen weitgespannten Handel zwischen Südamerika, im Besonderen zwischen Brasilien und Hamburg auf. Im Lauf seines langen Lebens wurde er damit zu einem Pionier und Brückenpfeiler der deutschbrasilianischen Beziehungen. Sein Reichtum erlaubte es ihm, sich in Wentorf bei Hamburg einen großzügigen Wohnsitz zu schaffen und darüber hinaus eine Stiftung in Lüneburg zu gründen, wo er auf dem dortigen Johanneum zur Schule gegangen war. Bei alldem wurde er zum Ahnherr einer großen, bis heute lebendigen Familie. |
