This Research Topic has the aim to fill the gap of the many unresolved scientific issues on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) that are still in need of investigation, Targeted treatments based on the understanding of the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of disease are still lacking. Further research is awaited and should be obtained through a significant effort on experimental treatment trials and neuroscience research. This Topic is divided in two main sections, one covering clinical issues and another on basic neurosciences of Autism Spectrum Disorders. A more detailed description of the contents of the articles is provided in the editorial at the beginning of the issue. |

Sommario/riassunto |

This work focuses on the Blue Card Directive, not as a specific instrument, but as an integral part of the EU Immigration Policy Framework. Such an approach is necessary, given the sector-based approach and the legislative patchwork adopted by the EU in the field of Immigration Policy. Moreover, EU law on migration is a new but a very dynamic field which is constantly evolving. Therefore, the project not only analyses the key definitions, central themes and legal issues of the Directive but also examines its interaction and tries to establish some connections with the other EU instruments on legal migration into the EU, most of them adopted on the so-called sector-based approach (Single Permit Directive, Family Reunification Directive, Long-term Residents Directive, Researchers, Students and Others Directive, etc.). In particular, the project tries do draw a parallel between some of the Blue Card Directive provisions and the jurisprudence of the European Court delivered for similar notions or legal problems contained in the others instruments. Furthermore, the work addresses |

other specific issues such us : mobility, the problem of an "ethical recruitment" of highly skilled workers, the volumes of admission (to be set by the Member States), the maintaining of national schemes for highly qualified migrants besides the EU Blue Card and the integration of migrants already admitted in the Member States. |

This book challenges the notion that bigger local government is always |

better. Whilst the central government in Britain has often supported increases in local government size, the book argues that this has been detrimental, and has caused the erosion of distinctive community identities that were previously represented by local authorities empowered to make significant local choices about services and future strategy. Drawing from national and international evidence, it offers an alternative narrative about the size, role, function and purpose of local government to that currently dominating policy discussion. It aims to provide readers who oppose size increases in local government with the evidence and arguments to influence change in their areas. The book will appeal to policymakers working in central and local government, as well as academics interested in public policy, public administration and local government. Steve Leach is Emeritus Professor of Local Government at De Montfort University, England. Colin Copus is Emeritus Professor of Local Politics at De Montfort University, England and a Visiting Professor at the University of Ghent, Belgium. |
