Depuis les travaux menés à l'époque coloniale, Tlemcen (Algérie) n'a plus été prise comme objet d'étude à part entière, l'historiographie ayant privilégié l'histoire politique et événementielle à l'échelle d'un royaume. Cet ouvrage replace la ville au cœur de la réflexion pour interroger les modalités de son affirmation en tant que capitale de la dynastie abdelwadide à partir VII/XIIIe siècle, en l'envisageant d'abord comme une construction sociale. L'affirmation de ce statut est ainsi le résultat de stratégies discursives déployées par le pouvoir abdelwadide mais aussi mérinide, puis partagées, diffusées et réappropriées au-delà du Maghreb. ticipent de la recomposition des représentations spatiales à l'époque post-almohade. Mais ce sont aussi les pratiques de l'espace mises en œuvre par divers acteurs, pouvoirs sultaniens, saints et savants, qui contribuent à faire de Tlemcen une capitale et qui favorisent son affirmation à l'échelle régionale, ainsi que son insertion dans les réseaux méditerranéens et transsahariens. À travers l'étude de la construction matérielle et symbolique de Tlemcen comme capitale de la dynastie abdelwadide, cet ouvrage revisite l'histoire du Maghreb central et d'un pouvoir abdelwadide trop souvent considéré comme instable et soumis à ses concurrents mérinide et hafside, pour donner à voir les dynamiques qui l'animent et les interactions dont il se nourrit. |
