Ce n’est ni en défaisant l’État social ni en s’efforçant de le restaurer comme un monument historique que l’on trouvera une issue à la crise sociale et écologique. C’est en repensant son architecture à la lumière du monde tel qu’il est et tel que nous voudrions qu’il soit. Et, aujourd’hui comme hier, la clé de voûte sera le statut accordé au travail. Face à la faillite morale, sociale, écologique et financière du néolibéralisme, l’horizon du travail au xxie siècle est celui de son émancipation du règne exclusif de la marchandise. Comme le montre le cas du travail de recherche, les statuts professionnels qui ont résisté à la dynamique du Marché total ne sont donc pas les fossiles d’un monde appelé à disparaître, mais bien plutôt les germes d’un régime de travail réellement humain, qui fasse place au sens et au contenu du travail – c’est-à-dire à l’accomplissement d’une œuvre. |
