Lieux de conservation et de transmission des textes, les bibliothèques médiévales ont une histoire qui s’écrit en même temps que celle de l’affirmation du livre comme outil de communication culturelle et sociale. Cet ouvrage retrace l’évolution de l’aspect et de la structure du manuscrit en occident, de l’époque carolingienne au XVe siècle. On y voit les auteurs s’impliquer de plus en plus concrètement dans le processus d’écriture, sous l’influence des usages documentaires.
