|
Relais de la voie domitienne, l’oppidum d’Ambrussum est un site majeur pour cerner les conditions et les aspects de la romanisation dans la région de Nîmes. On y connaissait deux maisons à cour Intérieure du Ier s. de notre ère qui forment l’îlot du secteur I ; les recherches conduites de 1976 à 1980 dans le secteur IV ont révélé une maison de ce type avec ses dépendances. A l’issue d’une analyse fondée sur leurs conditions d’implantation, d’occupation et d’abandon, leur architecture et la répartition de leur mobilier, ces constructions apparaissent comme une expression originale de l’habitat gallo-romain. Situées dans les contextes local et régional, elles témoignent d’un processus d’urbanisation et de différenciation sociale, et de l’existence d’un mode d’exploitation villageoise. Relay-point on a roman road, the oppidum of Ambrussum is a major site concerning conditions and aspects of the romanisation in the region of Nîmes. Two houses with internal courtyards were already known and dated from the first century AD and form an insula of secteur I.
