• Sommario/riassunto: Jerome Charyn est l’auteur d’une œuvre protéiforme à la fois profondément expérimentale et résolument populaire : en une cinquantaine de volumes comprenant nouvelles, romans, ouvrages consacrés à la culture américaine et à New York, bandes dessinées et écrits biographiques et autobiographiques, Charyn a composé l’une des partitions les plus vivantes et les plus audacieuses de la littérature américaine contemporaine. Cette étude, qui se fonde tant sur l’œuvre que sur ses paratextes, met au jour la veine profondément autofictionnelle qui traverse son écriture : depuis son enfance chaotique dans un quartier juif du Bronx pendant les années 1940 et 1950, Charyn n’a eu de cesse de réinventer la vie brisée de ses parents, immigrés d’Europe centrale restés en marge du rêve américain, et de retracer son enfance illuminée par la présence de son frère aîné, qui inspira toute une partie de son œuvre, en choisissant une écriture résolument mythologisante.
