Sommario/riassunto

Balance-sheet analysis (BSA) complements traditional flow-oriented macroeconomic analysis by gauging mismatches in aggregate and sectoral balance sheets of an economy. Enabled by recent progress in data availability, this paper applies BSA to Georgia, focusing on currency mismatches. In reviewing developments over the last five years, the paper finds that the still-high level of dollarization continues to create financial vulnerabilities, but that the overall level of currency mismatch has fallen and that liquidity problems are unlikely, in part owing to a strengthening of sectoral buffers, hedges, and insurance against shocks. Policy recommendations include accumulating reserves, strengthening securities markets, enhancing banking supervision, and maintaining a flexible exchange rate.

Sommario/riassunto

Software plays a critical role in today's global information economy. It runs the computers, networks, and devices that enable countless products and services. Software varies in size from vast enterprise and communications systems like SAP's enterprise resource planning system with hundreds of millions of lines of code to tiny apps like Angry Birds that run on mobile phones. Companies in the software industry produce and sell software products and related services. The industry is intensely competitive and has undergone a dramatic transformation from its roots in a handful of computer hardware mainframe producers in the 1960s to numerous large and small software companies today. Understanding how the software industry works and how the industry is evolving are important. Since software runs the computers and networks that support the flow of information in the global economy, the software industry also affects companies in all other industries that use these products and services for their own competitive advantage. This book offers a profile of the software

industry and the companies in the industry. It describes the primary products and services produced in the industry; reviews the history of the industry; explains how the industry is structured; discusses its economics and competitive environment; and examines important trends and issues including globalization, workforce, regulation, and the emergence of new software business models.

Sommario/riassunto

What does the discipline of educational science ,know' about ,education' - the term that stands unchallenged at the core of educational knowledge? The present study asks, on the one hand, about the bodies of knowledge on education that has been handed down in disciplinary lexicons from almost a hundred years and, on the other hand, about the discipline that becomes visible in this stored knowledge.   The knowledge stocks contouring educational knowledge are examined serially on three levels. (1.) that of the framing lexicon, (2.) that of the lemma titles associated with ,education', and (3.) that of the explications' texts which specifically are devoted to the object of ,education'. In addition, (4.) the personal, textual and thematic reference spaces spanned in the explications are analyzed. The quantifying evaluation of the bodies of knowledge - such as lexical data and metadata, data in front of editors and authors, words, references, names, citations, and bibliographical references - is combined with a qualitative content-analytical reconstruction of knowledge

configurations as they appear in prefaces and epilogues as well as in the explications of the educational lemmas.  The project will elaborate the conjunctures, (dis)continuities, appropriations, and boundary markings of disciplinary knowledge on ,education' from 1895 to 1989 - a period in which German-language educational science institutionalized, established, specialized, and diversified itself as a university-based, researching discipline.
