Knjiga 2Bparks MAINSTREAM je zaključna publikacija mednarodnega projekta Creative Sustainable Management, Territorial Compatible Marketing and Environmental Education to be Parks (2Bparks), ki je trajal od 1. 7. 2010 do 30. 6. 2013. Projekt je z vključevanjem okoljskih vsebin v procese odločanja, razvojem trajnostnega turizma in ozaveščanjem prispeval k trajnostni rabi naravnih virov ter h krepitvi povezav med družbami, gospodarstvi in zavarovanimi območji.V publikaciji so predstavljeni glavni rezultati projekta, s posebnim poudarkom na njegovi nadnacionalni razsežnosti, podana pa so tudi priporočila za trajnostno upravljanje in načrtovanje zavarovanih območij v prihodnje.Projekt 2Bparks je bil sofinanciran iz Evropskega sklada za regionalni razvoj v okviru programa MEDITERAN. |

|
Computational models provide intelligent environmental decision support systems to understand how human decisions are shaped by, and contribute to changes in, the environment. These models provide essential tools to tackle the important issues raised by climate change, including migrations and conflicts due to resource scarcity (e.g., water resources), while accounting for the necessity of co-managing ecosystems across a population of stakeholders with diverse goals. Such socio-environmental systems are characterized by their complexity, which is reflected by an abundance of open questions. This book explores several of these open questions, based on the contributions from over 50 authors. While several books account for methodological developments in modeling socio-environmental systems, our book is unique in combining case studies, methodological innovations, and a holistic approach to training the next generation of modelers. One chapter covers the ontological, epistemological, and ethical issues raised at the intersection of sustainability research and social simulation. In another chapter, we show that the benefits of simulations are not limited to managing complex eco-systems, as they can also serve an educational mission in teaching essential rules and thus improve systems thinking competencies in the broader population. |

Over the last few decades, remarkable progress has been made in understanding the aetiology and pathophysiology of diseases and many new theories emphasize the importance of the small bowel 'ecosystem' in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic illness. Emerging factors such as microbiome, stem cells, innate intestinal immunity and the enteric nervous system along with mucosal and endothelial barriers have key role in the development of gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. Therefore, the small intestine is considered key player in metabolic disease development, including diabetes mellitus, and other diet-related disorders such as celiac and non-celiac enteropathies. Another major field is drug metabolism and its interaction with microbiota. Moreover, the emergence of gut-brain, gut-liver and gut-blood barriers points toward the important role of small intestine in the pathogenesis of common disorders, such as liver disease, hypertension and neurodegenerative disease. However, the small bowel remains an organ that is difficult to fully access and assess and accurate diagnosis often poses a clinical challenge. Eventually, the therapeutic potential remains untapped. Therefore, it is due time to direct our interest towards the small intestine and unravel the interplay between small-bowel and other gastrointestinal (GI) and non-GI related maladies. |
