S’il est abusif de soutenir que la politique est « faite par et pour les médias », ceux-ci, et la télévision au premier chef, constituent une donnée essentielle de l’espace public dans les sociétés démocratiques. Les dispositifs de médiatisation du discours politique sont aujourd’hui en phase de mutation. Les formes du débat télévisé autour du Traité de Maastricht, le règne du « direct » au moment de la Guerre du Golfe, les représentations du téléspectateur dans les dessins de presse, la dimension transnationale des chaînes satellitaires, les possibilités ouvertes par les réseaux électroniques interactifs renvoient à de nouvelles configurations techniques et sociales que les études ici présentées se proposent d’éclairer.
