D’où vient l’idée étrange que les Blancs seraient aujourd’hui, au même titre que les minorités, victimes de discriminations, voire d’un "racisme anti-Blancs" ? Fruit d’une conscience raciale blessée, cette croyance trouve ses racines dans les Etats-Unis du XVIIIe siècle. Depuis quelques années, Donald Trump l’a plus que jamais politisée avec sa promesse de restauration d’une préséance blanche perdue, confisquée par d’autres. Une telle rhétorique victimaire résonne de notre côté de l’Atlantique, où l’on parle désormais de "déclin" ou de "stigmatisation" de l’homme blanc. En dévoilant les origines de ce discours, Sylvie Laurent démontre que le "pauvre petit Blanc" est un mythe, un tour de passe-passe des élites blanches qui s’approprient la posture de l’opprimé pour préserver leur statut et leur privilège racial, vivement contestés depuis les années 1960 jusqu’à Black Lives Matter. |
