• Sommario/riassunto: L’ouvrage présente les résultats de deux fouilles préventives préalables à l’extension et à la restructuration du palais de justice d’Épinal ; (Vosges), réalisées à la fin des années 1990. Menées sur une surface de 3 000 m2, ces interventions archéologiques, corrélées avec d’autres sources documentaires, apportent des informations inédites sur les origines de la ville et le développement d’un quartier localisé au coeur de l’espace urbain, entre le château et la basilique Saint-Maurice. Les plus anciennes traces de fréquentation du secteur remontent aux viiie-ixe s. mais ce n’est qu’à partir du xe s. que les premiers aménagements sont attestés en bordure d’une zone humide, à l’emplacement d’un ancien cours d’eau. L’espace se structure progressivement entre le xiiie s. et le début du xviie s. avec le développement d’un habitat ouvert sur des arrière-cours, en lien avec des activités artisanales et commerciales. Dans les années 1620, le bâti est investi par la Congrégation Notre-Dame. Celle-ci y construira un nouveau couvent au xviiie s. À la Révolution, les bâtiments religieux sont affectés à des fonctions administratives, avant l’édification vers 1820 d’une maison d’arrêt, détruite à la fin du xxe s. Outre les informations relatives aux origines et aux transformations de l’espace urbain, ce dossier documentaire offre un bel éclairage sur la vie matérielle et spirituelle des habitants d’un quartier durant près d’un millénaire. Il permet enfin d’approcher de manière originale le quotidien d’une communauté religieuse à l’époque moderne. • Sommario/riassunto: In Bounded Rationality and Politics, Jonathan Bendor considers two schools of behavioral economics-the first guided by Tversky and Kahneman's work on heuristics and biases, which focuses on the mistakes people make in judgment and choice; the second as described by Gerd Gigerenzer's program on fast and frugal heuristics, which emphasizes the effectiveness of simple rules of thumb. Finding each of these radically incomplete, Bendor's illuminating analysis proposes Herbert Simon's pathbreaking work on bounded rationality as a way to reconcile the inconsistencies between the two camps. Bendor shows that Simon's theory turns on the interplay between the cognitive constraints of decision makers and the complexity of their tasks.
