Depuis quelques années, une critique structuraliste qui séparait rigoureusement structure et genèse, exigeant la considération d’un texte clos sur lui-même et dont elle négligeait les étapes et les variantes, n’est plus de mise. inachevée non seulement dans son état final, mais même potentiellement, car de nombreux éléments abandonnés ou au contraire introduits en cours de route, notamment l’histoire d’Albertine, témoignent d’une activité incessante de « surnourriture » et de remodelage qui introduit de riches arrière-plans et de notables déviations par rapport à l’orientation d’ensemble. Les auteurs des présentes contributions, universitaires allemands, suisses et français, font ressortir, à propos de nombreux aspects du roman proustien, l’importance fondamentale que revêt l’étude des avant-textes, éléments non pas résiduels, mais constitutifs d’une écriture jamais parvenue à un point de fixation définitif. Ils analysent cette mobilité tantôt comme un phénomène de discours, du point de vue du produit ou comme une autoproduction, tantôt dans sa relation avec le sujet écrivant, envisageable lui-même sous différents angles. Il est certain en tout cas qu’avec Proust la question du sujet se pose de nouveau avec insistance à la critique contemporaine. |
