Il volumerisponde alla domanda attraverso un percorso che ricostruisce lagenealogia della nozione di minoranza religiosa nel prisma della suadefinizione giuridica, della sua genesi nel diritto della Società delleNazioni, del suo sviluppo da parte delle Nazioni Unite e dellacircolazione nel Consiglio d'Europa, nell'Unione Europea enell'Organizzazione per la sicurezza e la cooperazione in Europa. Le trefasi - genesi, sviluppo, circolazione - scandiscono la trasformazione diun concetto che, sprovvisto di una definizione giuridica ufficiale,diviene, a partire dal secondo dopoguerra, una categoria sempre piùesposta alle trasformazioni che investono le minoranze religiose. Inquesta luce, la qualificazione giuridica dello status delle minoranzereligiose rappresenta anche uno strumento innovativo per indagarefenomeni più ampi come le sovrapposizioni tra religioni e migrazioni,l'intersezione tra identità religiosa, identità di genere e orientamentosessuale, e le sinergie tra istituzioni internazionali nella tutela dei dirittiumani.
