Insieme ai precedenti lavori dedicati al giuramento politico e alla giustizia, questo volume porta a termine un'importante opera d'interpretazione con cui Prodi ha indagato e messo in luce alcuni tratti costitutivi profondi della civiltà europea, ossia le strutture mentali, sociali, economiche e giuridiche che hanno consentito l'ingresso della società europea nella modernità. Queste pagine mostrano come a partire dal medioevo il mercato si sia affermato in quanto soggetto autonomo, luogo indipendente di determinazione del valore dei beni. Con il mercato mutano i concetti di ricchezza e di proprietà e anche il concetto di furto, inteso come violazione del "giusto prezzo" e delle regole del mercato. La formazione di un potere economico distinto da quello politico, e con questo in continua dialettica, è stato ciò che ha permesso non solo la nascita della civiltà industriale ma anche la nascita delle libertà costituzionali e dei diritti. Ripercorrendo una vicenda millenaria, "Settimo non rubare" finisce per interrogarsi sulla crisi in cui questa civiltà pare irreversibilmente entrata oggi. |

Canonical commutation relations (CCR) and canonical anti-commutation relations (CAR) are basic principles in quantum physics including both quantum mechanics with finite degrees of freedom and quantum field theory. From a structural viewpoint, quantum physics can be primarily understood as Hilbert space representations of CCR or CAR. Particular emphases are put on the importance of inequivalent representations of CCR or CAR, which may be related to characteristic physical phenomena. The topics presented include general theories of representations of CCR and CAR with finite and infinite degrees of freedom, the Aharonov–Bohm effect, time operators, quantum field theories based on Fock spaces, Bogoliubov transformations, and relations of infinite renormalizations with inequivalent representations of CCR.
